"Blossoms of Light" at the Botanic Gardens in Denver CO

Hi there.  Meet the Cutler Family.  I am Nancy Cutler and these folks are my family.  My favorite number is six and if you count the sweet faces in this photo you will know why I love that number. My daughter-in-law is on the far right and she is our tour guide, mentor, arranger of all things fun.  We recently had the chance to attend the "Blossoms of Light" at the Botanic Gardens in Denver. Click here for all the info! So armed with my iPhone and little talent in photography, here is my attempt to reenact this lovely night.

We started at twilight.  The line was long but, we purchased tickets ahead (or should I say our tour guide made all the arrangements.) We were in the gardens in no time at all.  I love phone-tickets and technology.  How about you?

It soon grew dark and the lights were amazing.  I felt as if I were dropped into another place and time.  I know the family grew tired of me lagging behind but, I couldn't help myself.  I knew this might be a once in a lifetime experience and I wanted to take it all in.

 The  temperature was perfect for hot cocoa.  The grands had such a good time shopping for a hot cocoa station.  The first one was super busy so we forged on and found one much later.  It was the perfect time to rest our legs and have a warm cup.  As it turns out, though, one can be tricked in cold weather into thinking that a hot cocoa isn't as hot as it is in reality.  Our test case was unfortunately, the littlest Cutler.  I felt so sad when she tasted hers and cried.  But, as all families do, we carried on and as the cocoa cooled. Little Hazel tried drinking it again. As in Goldilocks and the Three Bears,  this time it was "just right."

If pink is your favorite color, this tree is for you.  I was overwhelmed with it's vibrancy.  My goodness, I would love to decorate our entire yard at the farm just like this! Somehow, though, I believe my farmer would disagree.  He loves lights more that he lets on but, an entire yard of pink might be too much.  2018 decorating, here I come!

The entrance was stunning and the sculptures and architectural features  were visible in the early part of our walk.

We got a little peek of Santa in the window.

This cactus went out of it's way to show off.  The festive colors were amazing and if you look closely you might spy an edge of glitter on every leaf.  It was stunning.

The wall of lights surrounded us.  It made me think of when I was The wall of lights surrounded us.  It made me think of when I was a little girl.  How excited I was to put up our one or two strings of light.  We had the old large bulbs that got very hot and later we added a few bubble lights.  It was no less magical for me, as a child, than this night. Times change and every moment is personal and special no matter the circumstances, or time period, or generation.

The Excitement of Tulips

  • This isn't the first farmyard we have inhabited for many years, so it's taken awhile to adjust to our new surroundings. I tested an area where an old well resides.  I hoped the cement blocks offer enough warmth when the sun shines to get tulips to grow.  I was right and I am so excited.  Next I will see if I can add to this space and get a repeat performance next year.  I certainly hope so.

  • Some tulips are a bit slower to bloom.  I am thinking the weather has been super cold this spring and I am grateful for the blooms to be spread out a bit.  I can't wait to see what these have in store for us.  I think they look very interesting.  Don't you?
  • Yellow is one of my favorite colors.  Isn't the ruffle on the edge stunning?  I think I will plant more of these in the fall.
  • So here is one of the little rows that I planted out by the well.  I will remove the grass and create an edge to make mowing a little easier now that I know there is "joy in "Mudville." (adaption from Casey At the Bat by Earnest Lawrence Thayer) I may even post a purple tulip in the near future.  I have some of those beginning blooms as well. {smile}
